Julia Roberts to make Batkid Begins movie
By 1
Julia Roberts is set to produce and star in a film inspired by Miles Scott, aka “Batkid.”
Hopefully everyone remembers Batkid and how he took the streets of San Fransisco by storm, but if not, here’s a quick refresher: Miles Scott, a five year-old with leukemia, got the chance to be Batkid and save the city, thanks to the Make-A-Wish foundation and the city of San Francisco. While they initially hoped for a few hundred people to participate and cheer on Batkid, 25,000 people turned up and the event went viral.

Miles’ story inspired a documentary on his famous day as Batkid and the aftermath, Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Round the World, which just premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival this weekend. Now news has come in that there are plans to project the story further, as Julia Roberts has been reported to produce and star in a feature film adaptation of the documentary.
When informed of Roberts’ plans, Batkid Begins director Dana Nachman had the following to say:
"“It’s thrilling to me that Ms. Roberts and her team watched our film and were so moved by it that they want to dedicate their time and creative capital to make sure the widest audience possible will know and love Miles’ story and the spirit of this intimate special event that went global, as much as we do.”"
While I’m not exactly sure of how the documentary can be transformed into a feature film, if there’s another way to get this story across to more and more people, I’m all for it. Children have fantastic imaginations and limitless creativity, and this kid is amazing. I remember when I first saw those pictures of Batkid saving the damsel in distress, and I’m not ashamed to admit I teared up a bit.
Below you can see the trailer for the Batkid Begins documentary. I actually cried this time. (Nope, still not ashamed)
