Grantland’s Bill Simmons called out his fellow ESPN colleague Ray Lewis on twitter Tuesday morning after Lewis suggested the New England Patriots should have an asterisk for cheating

What do you know, Bill Simmons is getting into it again with fellow ESPN employees. And like every other time Simmons speaks out against his employee/employer, it’s completely justified!

Former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis has made headlines in the last two weeks for slamming the Patriots, which happens to be Simmons’ favorite NFL team.

First, Lewis said the only reason people know Tom Brady is because of the “Tuck Rule.”

If that’s true, I think it’s fair to say the only reason people know Ray Lewis is because of that infamous argument in the club that led to the murder of two people.

Then, after all this talk about slightly flattened/deflated balls, Lewis said there should be an asterisk in the record books for the Patriots’ wins.

That’s the most hypocritical garbage I’ve heard this week.

On Tuesday morning, Simmons had also heard enough from Lewis and tweeted out this message with a photo attached:

The link attached to Simmons tweet was to a picture of Lewis with deer antlers, obviously referring to the deer antler spray Lewis was accused of using to help heal his torn tricep back in 2013.

Of course, there’s no proof Lewis cheated or took steroids to recover from his injury, but we’re not stupid, and Lewis is not super-human.

Lewis suffered a completely torn tricep and then returned to action less than two months after the injury. The average recovery time for that injury is about one year, according to the Baltimore Sun, and never less than four months. Like I just mentioned, Lewis had surgery and recovered in less than two months. Smell anything fishy?

We’ll never know if Lewis used performance-enhancing drugs to get back on the field, but his qualms with the Patriots feel less like solid analysis of the situation and more like a jealous, envious former rival of the Patriots during their rise to power in the 2000s.

Good on Simmons for sticking up for his team when everyone else throwing poop at the wall to see what sticks.
