Guardians of the Galaxy’s Chris Pratt may take over for Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones
Chris Pratt’s stock has risen enormously over the last few years. Before 2014, he was best known for playing the pudgy, affable Andy Dwyer on NBC’s Parks and Recreation. Then, seemingly overnight, he lost a fourth of his body weight, packed on muscle and made a huge splash as Peter Quill in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, where he impressed critics and raked in cash as a world-hopping action star.
Now, Deadline reports that Disney is eyeing Pratt to play Indiana Jones, everyone’s favorite globe-trotting, whip-cracking archaeologist, in a potential reboot of the series.

The notion that Disney might revive Indiana Jones is news in and of itself, seeing as the last entry was 2008’s lackluster Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. On the other hand, it makes utter and complete sense.
Every studio is trying to land the next big franchise, with Disney at the head of the pack. Under its ownership, Marvel’s family of comic book adaptations has thrived, and the upcoming deluge of Star Wars movies proves that the company still knows how to wring every last dollar out of its adoring public.
If they’re made well, people would flock to see a new crop of Indiana Jones adventures.
And if Disney is set on bringing the series back, Pratt is almost eerily perfect for the job. On Parks and Recreation, the guy proved that he’s up for a serious pratfall, so we know he can handle the physical stuff. The comic chops he developed on that show will come in handy, too. Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy proved that he handle the pressures of being a leading man. And in both those roles, Pratt showed an easy likability that should make it easy to build a franchise around him. It’s hard to imagine getting sick of seeing Pratt onscreen.
Of course, I could end up eating those words if Pratt gets overexposed, which might happen if this roll he’s on keeps going. He’ll be starring in Jurassic World later this year, which could turn into a franchise itself, and might star alongside Denzel Washington in an upcoming remake of The Magnificent Seven. Still, if we’ve got to have a new Indiana Jones, Pratt’s the right choice. Now we can start discussing who should play that creepy, giggling Nazi with the glasses.
