IMAX ticket sales for ‘Game of Thrones’ are impressive
Thousands will flock to theaters to see two episodes of Game of Thrones in IMAX
Someone had the idea to put two episodes of HBO’s Game of Thrones, “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children”, along with a trailer for the upcoming fifth season, in select IMAX theaters. Someone is going to make a lot of money.

This news shouldn’t surprise anyone, Game of Thrones is the biggest phenomenon in television in recent memory. Entertainment Weekly reports that out of the 200 IMAX theaters showing the episode, a number of the theaters sold out tickets to the event. One person, however, is very surprised by the news.
The CEO of IMAX, Greg Foster told EW, “It’s very heartening and surprising that people are willing to pay money and drive somewhere to re-experience a show they’ve already seen and now want to see again on a big screen with friends and family.”
Foster expected a modest showing but was taken aback by the ticket sales. As soon as the showing was announced, the IMAX website crashed due to traffic. Then they made the decision to bring the episodes to more theaters. The website crashed again.
Personally, I’d love to go see these episodes in theaters. “The Watchers on the Wall” featured cinema-worthy fight sequences and the entire episode looks like it can go toe to toe with most big-budget films. “The Children”, which was nominated for an Emmy award, left things off on in the usual Game of Thrones fashion with character deaths and surprising twists.
Foster told EW that “I know everybody calls Thrones a television show, but it looks like a movie” and “It’s unbelievably cinematic. It blew us away.” Tickets are available on the IMAX website.
The fifth season of Game of Thrones airs in April.
