Ranking the 30 most dominant individual performances in Super Bowl history
By Daniel
25. Max McGee in Super Bowl I
WR, Green Bay Packers
In the Packers’ first Super Bowl Championship, the first game of its kind to be played, Max McGee became a sort of folk hero in Green Bay. McGee assumed he wasn’t going to see much of the field on Jan. 15, 1967 as Boyd Dowler was the Packers’ starter, so he spent the night drinking and partying around Los Angeles. However, Dowler went down early in the game win an injury and a hungover McGee entered the game.
All he did was score the first touchdown in Super Bowl history and rack up 138 yards on seven catches. He caught a total of two touchdowns on the day from quarterback Bart Starr and he helped lead Green Bay to a 35-10 thumping of the Kansas City Chiefs. His performance wasn’t quite playing as epic as playing through an injury, but it’s still impressive.
