Kyrie Irving showed on Wednesday night that he can absolutely step up in the absence of LeBron James when he needs to
The Cleveland Cavaliers were taking on one of the best teams in the Western Conference on Wednesday night in the Portland Trail Blazers, and shortly before the game got underway, it was announced that LeBron James would not be available for the contest as he nurses an injured wrist.
The Cavs were dead to rights, correct? Nah, that’s not the case when it’s time for Kyrie Irving to step up and lead the show, and he did so in a big way.
With this three-pointer that you’ll see below to tie the game late in the fourth quarter, that put Kyrie Irving over the 50-point mark against one of the best teams in the West.
With LeBron out, Kyrie Irving just went out there and did some serious work, which obviously is a good sign. It goes without saying that you want to know that when your biggest star is out, your next one will step right up and put the team on his back.
Irving, who totaled 55 points, would end up finishing the night 17-of-36 from the field including 11-of-19 from three-point range. He was also a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
The Cavs would end up winning the game in regulation, 99-94.
