It’s certainly a tough break for a Cavaliers team that is just 1-8 in games without James this season. The 32-13 Trail Blazers are one of the very best teams in the league and would have been a tough out even if LeBron were suiting up. Shawn Marion will replace James in the starting lineup.
Wednesday represents a good challenge for Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love now that LeBron is out. It certainly would be a confidence booster for the two if they were able to lead Cleveland to a win without James, especially for Love who is fresh off a rough seven-point performance in Cleveland’s last game.
Love is averaging 17.3 points on 43.0 percent shooting from the field and 10.3 rebounds per game this season. Irving is averaging 21.3 points on 46.6 percent shooting from the field and 5.2 assists per game.
The Cavs won seven straight games entering the matchup, giving them a 26-20 record, the fifth best mark in the Eastern Conference.
