Super Bowl 49: Top 15 quarterback performances all-time
By Brad Rowland
7) Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens, Super Bowl XLVII
January and February of 2013 will forever be remembered as the apex of Joe Flacco’s career. Baltimore’s signal-caller had put together a solid but unspectacular career to that point, but Flacco basically put the Ravens on his back in route to the Super Bowl, and he capped it off with a fantastic performance in a win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Flacco finished the day with 287 yards on 22 of 33 passing, and he completed the postseason without issuing a single interception while posting three touchdowns in the Super Bowl. Baltimore needed every inch of his production in order to secure their 34-31 victory in between power outages (remember that?), and Flacco was named Super Bowl MVP.
Everything about Joe Flacco’s profile suggests that his playoff performance in 2013 was fluky, but it still happened and that is how playoff mystique is born. We are still in the midst of his prime, so perhaps Flacco will return to this form, but if he doesn’t, he’ll always have this particular Super Bowl performance.
