5) Joe Montana, San Francisco 49ers – Super Bowl XIX

Montana again!

The 49ers won a lot in the 1980’s, and January 20, 1985 was yet another example, as San Francisco cruised to a 38-16 over Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins. As stated previously, Joe Montana had a knack for producing absurdly well-played games in the biggest possible spots, and well, this qualifies.

Montana completed 24 of 35 passes (68.6%) for 331 yards, and he did not issue an interception to go along with three touchdown connections. Somehow, a game where he produced a 127.2 quarterback rating wasn’t even Montana’s best Super Bowl performance (we’ll get there), but while some would recall this game as Dan Marino’s lone opportunity in “the big game”, Joe Montana uses it as a piece of his incredible legacy.
