During a recent interview with Eric Decker, the New York Jets wide receiver said that he is not rooting for former coach Josh McDaniels on a personal level as he coaches the Patriots in the Super Bowl.
Josh McDaniels will be on the sideline this Sunday in the Super Bowl coaching with the New England Patriots. McDaniels received his only opportunity to be a head coach in the NFL with the Denver Broncos during the 2009-2010 NFL seasons.
Coming off a tremendous job working with the New England Patriots, in particular being Tom Brady’s quarterback coach and offensive coordinator the year he was league MVP racking up 50 touchdowns, McDaniels was rewarded with the opportunity. During his second season at the helm, McDaniels drafted Eric Decker as part of the 2010 Broncos only to be fired twelve games into the season.

When asked recently while promoting Courtyard Camera by Marriott whether Decker will be rooting for his former coach at least on a personal level in the Super Bowl, Decker had an interesting take on the game.
“I wouldn’t say so no,” Decker said. “I do appreciate that he was the one that drafted me and gave me a chance to play in the NFL especially since a great organization like Denver. You get to know different coaches and get to respect them and appreciate them for the things they’ve done but as far as rooting for him personally during the game you know it’s hard for me.
“New England is in our division and it would be hard to root for them, I’m an AFC guy. I’m not gonna root for Seattle they beat us last year in the Super Bowl so I’m just gonna enjoy the game. I just want to see a good game, I’m not really rooting for anyone.”
It may be McDaniels short comings as a head coach that leaves Decker without the urge to root for his former coach, although he did state his gratefulness of McDaniels’ belief that he was good enough to suit up as a Bronco.
However, it certainly does not help the situation that McDaniels has now returned to coach Decker’s team’s divisional rival, the New England Patriots.
You can watch Decker and his former teammate Demaryius Thomas go undercover to surprise guests staying at a Courtyard Marriott hotel, pretending to be bistro servers and surprising a few guests with Super Bowl tickets below.
