Davis suffered the groin injury on Wednesday when the Pelicans took on the Denver Nuggets. Davis had an MRI following the game, which revealed him to have a Grade 1 strain.
Pelicans coach Monty Williams shed some more light on Davis’ health on Friday, via the team’s website.
"“He won’t play tonight,” Williams said. “He had some soreness this morning. He tried to work out in shootaround (but) we didn’t like what we saw. I have to be his brains in a situation like this – he wants to play, but like I saw the other night, the want-to (was) in his eyes, but the can-do is totally different right now. We felt like a few more days of rest will help him get ready for the next game (against Atlanta on Monday).”"
It’s certainly a tough break for the Pelicans in a game they were already sizable underdogs in. Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans and Co. will surely have to step up for New Orleans to have a shot at pulling off the upset.
Davis is averaging 24.5 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game this season.
