The Duke Blue Devils rebounded in a big way, handing Virginia their first loss of the season on Saturday night
After losing to Notre Dame this week, the Duke Blue Devils needed a win in a big way on Saturday night, but that would not come easy as they were taking on the No. 2 ranked and undefeated Virginia Cavaliers. To get a rebound win, they would need to defeat the team from the ACC that had not lost a game.
Well, when it was all said and done on Saturday night, they had done just that, as the Blue Devils came away with the 69-63 victory to hand the Cavaliers their first defeat of the year.
Freshman guard Tyus Jones once again showed up when it mattered the most, dropping in 17 points on the night with four rebounds and four assists. No three of those 17 points were bigger, though, than the ones that he scored with a late three-pointer down the stretch to more or less seal the win for Coach K and the Blue Devils.
Jahlil Okafor nearly finished with a double-double in this one, ending up with 10 points with nine rebounds and three assists and two steals on the night, as the young guns made sure that Duke would get things back on track in a hurry following the loss to Notre Dame earlier in the week.
This, though, will not be the last that we will see of this talented Virginia team, that had Duke on the ropes for a good portion of the second half.
As far as the regular season goes, this is the only time these two will meet. Should these teams meet again this year, it will be during the ACC Tournament in March.
