NFL honors Larry Fitzgerald with the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award
Larry Fitzgerald received the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award at the NFL Honors on Saturday evening. A “sportsmanship” award typically goes to that athlete on the junior high soccer team who has trouble tying his shoes. This is not the case for Larry Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald’s numbers in receiving categories have been dwindling in recent years. This is more a testament to the quarterback woes the Cardinals have been dealing with since the retirement of Kurt Warner and less of a receding ability in Fitzgerald himself. Since 2009, the year of Warner’s retirement, the Cardinals have gone through eight starting quarterbacks.

That is right. Arizona is averaging two different starting quarterbacks a season. Not to mention that seven of those quarterbacks weren’t starting for any NFL team by the end of this season.
Just to put the frustration Fitzgerald has had to deal with the past four seasons at the quarterback position into perspective. Despite all that, he continually helps his team succeed with a smile on his face.
Even with diminishing targets, the star receiver never complained to the media (Randy Moss comes to mind for some reason), got in anybody’s face on the sideline (Terrell Owens and Donovan Mcnabb come to mind), or had issues with coaching (once again, T.O.).
The football talent that Larry Fitzgerald has is only topped by his sportsmanship and team first attitude. A well deserved award for one of the NFL’s true class acts.
