The Orlando Magic have a bright future but it’s one that does not include head coach Jacque Vaughn, who is expected to be fired this season.

In what has turned into a situation that will only take a matter of time, the Orlando Magic are gearing up to replace head coach Jacque Vaughn this season — they just won’ the doing it before Saturday night’s game.

Orlando is currently 15-34 and one of the worst teams in basketball despite having a roster of young and promising talent. The onus of the failures are falling on Vaughn and his inability to show growth with the team and that’s something which will be costing him his job sooner rather than later.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski from Yahoo! Sports, the Magic are going to fire Jacque Vaughn at some point this season, they’re just not ready to replace him yet.

"“It isn’t a matter of ‘if,’ anymore, but ‘when,’ ” a source close to the decision-making process told Yahoo Sports about Vaughn’s fading job security."

This seems to be a bit cruel, as it’s almost teasing Vaughn that he may be able to save his job and coach out of the funk when he very clearly is a dead man walking. Still, he has a lot of potential as a head coach and seems to have just landed in the wrong situation.

Something similar to this was seen when Brian Shaw was hired by the Denver Nuggets after he was a star assistant for the Indiana Pacers. Vaughn cut his teeth under Gregg Popovic in San Antonio, so the coaching lineage is there, he just hasn’t been able to put it all together.

Vaughn may be out soon but he will at least get to coach through tonight’s game against the Dallas Mavericks — he just may not last much longer than that.
