The Cardinals are looking to re-sign linebacker and former Pittsburgh Steeler Larry Foote, who will turn 35 before the start of next season.

In the hope to maintain the sort of roster consistency that eluded them this past year, the Arizona Cardinals will apparently look into re-signing inside linebacker Larry Foote.

Foote started all 15 games that he played for the Cardinals, racking up 61 solo tackles, two sacks and an interception. He was hampered by foot and knee injuries throughout the second half of the Cardinals’ 11-5 season.

The interest is likely inspired by the potential absence of linebacker Daryl Washington this upcoming year. The 2012 Pro Bowler was suspended for the entire 2014 season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, which gave Larry Foote the opportunity to step into Washington’s role.

From Pro Football Talk:

"Washington pleaded guilty to aggravated assault last March after being arrested for pushing the mother of his daughter hard enough that she fell and broke her collarbone. The league has not handed down any discipline for that case, but it seems likely and president Michael Bidwill said that the Cardinals aren’t planning around Washington’s presence as a result."

Foote would return to a defense that boasts Pro Bowlers Calais Campbell at defensive end and Patrick Peterson at cornerback. However, the team will be without defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, who left Arizona to become the head coach of the New York Jets.

Although Foote provides excellent leadership and continuity, he does turn 35 and it would be wise for the Cardinals to address the position this offseason.
