Idina Menzel Super Bowl 49 national anthem (Video)
By Tony Tran
Tony Award winner and Let It Go singer Idina Menzel lent her voice to the 49th Super Bowl this Sunday, singing the National Anthem before the start of the game. And lent her voice she did. Even as she was singing the first couple bars of the anthem, the crowd in Phoenix could barely contain themselves, cheering and clapping with enthusiasm.
Perhaps they were just happy she didn’t repeat the mishap we saw from Christina Aguilera four years ago when she fudged up a lyric from the national anthem of her own country.
Menzel has the honor of performing The Star Spangled Banner this year though, which should come as a surprise to no one. Anyone who is familiar with her work in the Tony Award-winning musical Wicked or Frozen, should recognize her voice from one of the most over-played songs from the last century, “Let It Go.” I think she was just glad that John Travolta wasn’t in charge of announcing her again.
So regardless of what happens, fans and patriots all over can be rest assured that our anthem is in good hands. And, hey, even if you didn’t like her rendition of it (you commie) maybe it’d be best to just let it go.
