Dallas Mavericks point guard is out Monday after sustaining a head injury against the Orlando Magic.
Dallas Mavericks point guard Rajon Rondo is out for Monday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a facial injury suffered on Saturday’s game against the Orlando Magic, according ESPN’s Marc Stein.
Just minutes into the game, Rondo took a brutal knee to the face by teammate Richard Jefferson after Rondo slipped trying to pick up a lose ball. Rondo stayed down on the court for a minutes in noticeable pain with blood coming from his nose. He left the game and did not return.
The extent of the injury has not been determined, but the Mavericks and their medical team are evaluating Rondo on Sunday, according to Stein. Until the Mavericks know exactly what’s wrong with Rondo, they will not announce how long Rondo will be out.

Dallas currently sits in sixth place in the West with a 32-17 record. The Mavs have a fairly difficult upcoming schedule over the next week. After playing Minnesota on Monday, Dallas takes on the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, the Sacramento Kings on Thursday, and the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday.
With the Mavs, Rondo is averaging 9.2 points and 6.5 assists per game.
Obviously, the Mavs would love Rondo to return prior to Wednesday’s game against Golden State, but after seeing how hard Rondo was knee’d in the face, there’s a pretty good chance he has a broken nose or a concussion, at the very least.
