‘Star Trek 3’ Eyeing Bryan Cranston For Villain

I’m the one who knocks. Bryan Cranston might just be the next villain in ‘Star Trek 3.’

Coming off of the heels of resurrecting the dasterdly Walter “Heisenberg” White for a Super Bowl Spot last Sunday, Bryan Cranston might just be heading back to the big screen. This time, it’s for the sequel to the blockbuster Star Trek: Into Darkness. That’s right.

Fans of both the Star Trek franchise and the AMC hit television series Breaking Bad alike can rejoice due to the recent rumors that Cranston will star as the villain in the next Star Trek film.

Cranston’s acting is nothing if not legendary. Having acted in all six season of the critically acclaimed Breaking Bad as well as the greatest television show on Earth Malcolm in the Middle, he has gone to show us that he has the chops for comedy as well as devastatingly real drama.

With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that the folks in charge of Star Trek 3 should write a role specifically tailored to him. From Film Divider:

"As we understand it, [the villain of Star Trek 3] is supposed to be Bryan Cranston-like, to the point that Cranston himself has had words with the studio about taking the role. We don’t know just yet if he said yes, or if this is an all-new character or somebody from continuity, but because they’re shooting for Cranston we at least know the filmmakers want to bring the intensity."

Though studios are being vague about whether or not Cranston will take part in the movie in any way, the news makes this trekkie’s heart hopeful.

Along with Cranston, we might just be able to find a couple of new faces in the cast. Namely three new female characters. These ladies will include the new female President of the Federation, Bones McCoy’s ex-wife, as well as a female starship captain who is Captain Kirk’s equal.

Pretty awesome to hear, especially considering how badly they guffed up their treatment of women in the last movies (see Alice Eve gratuitous underwear scene).

And as if that wasn’t enough, Star Trek 3 is going to see a screenwriting credit from noted zombie basher Simon Pegg. Pegg, whose credits include Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, should be able to weave humor into the action of a fandom he knows well.

Between Heisenberg, Pegg, and a new kick ass lady starship captain, fans will have plenty to look forward to as production begins.
