There’s little doubt about it: the National Hockey League season is a long one. Through 82 regular season games and a ferocious post-season, it feels like there’s no off-season to speak of for these guys.

With the All-Star festivities now complete and the trade deadline only one month away, a new set up updated Stanley Cup odds have been released. As most teams have already played their 50th game of the season, what better time than now is there to check out the updated odds?

At the top of the list we have three Western Conference teams, and for good reason too. While the contrasting differences between the conferences aren’t as drastic in the NHL when compared with the NBA, the West still sports the top high-end teams.

The West has produced the last three champions in the league, including the Los Angeles Kings (16/1) knocking off the New York Rangers (14/1) in a quick five-games last year. The West has also won four of the five and six of the last eight dating back the Anaheim Ducks (6/1) in 2007.

There’s no reason to think the East has caught up yet. Or is there?

Perhaps the strongest division in all the land is the Metropolitan Division which resides in the East. The surprising New York Islanders (12/1) lead the way at the moment with 65 points. Sydney Crosby’s Penguins (12/1) are second in the division with 64 points, and the defending Eastern Conference Champion New York Rangers are third with 62 points, and still have two games in hand on both the Isles and Pens.

Even the fourth place Washington Capitals (25/1) and fifth place Philadelphia Flyers (100/1) are dangerous. The Caps represent the strongest fourth place division team of all four divisions in the NHL. In fact, the Eastern Conference’s eight current playoff teams are stronger than the West’s.

If the playoffs began today, the East’s 8th seeded Boston Bruins (12/1) with 61 points totally outclass the West’s Vancouver Canucks (33/1) with 57 points.

The team who’s receiving very little love from the odds-makers are the Nashville Predators (14/1) who are currently tied for the most points in the league with 70.

While the Chicago Blackhawks (6/1) and the West does sport the top three, the East has the next six and also represent seven of the top 11 teams.
