The Atlanta Hawks entire starting lineup earn Eastern Conference player of the month award, after winning 19 straight in January

Typically, the NBA names the player of the month reward to a single player, but not in the case of the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks have been so unselfish during their success that each player’s points per game average is in double figures.

Teamwork reigns supreme in Atlanta this season, and it has worked out splendidly so far for the team with the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Turns out the Hawks will have to be just as good at sharing this award as they are at sharing the ball. Something tells me they won’t have any issues in this department. This season, the Hawks are second in the League in assists per game (25.9), only being beat out by the Golden State Warriors (27.3) who happen to own the best record in the NBA this season at 38-8.

The NBA has been seeing a shift towards the big 3 platform for how to manufacture a championship team.

It is nice to see a well-rounded team succeed, with each player knowing and filling there role.

Perhaps the biggest piece of the pie for the Hawks isn’t their monthly MVP award winners, but their bench. Dennis Schroder, Mike Scott, Pero Antic, and Thabo Sefolosha have combined for an average of 27.0 PPG off the bench for the Hawks. Just because the NBA is honoring the Hawks starting lineup this month, doesn’t mean the entire bench hasn’t been fulfilling their role when they are needed.

Even if that role means going crazy after a Kyle Korver three pointer like they did against the Memphis Grizzlies earlier in January.

Luckily for Hawks fans, they will get to enjoy all of the unselfish and team-oriented play that their team has been exhibiting all season this Friday against the league leading Golden State Warriors.
