The Green Bay Packers have promoted Zook to fix their abysmal special teams unit
The Green Bay Packers special teams is bad to say the least. The Packers ranked 32nd in 2014 and their special teams ended up costing them the NFC Championship against the Seattle Seahawks.Ā A Seahawks fake field goal and onside kick gave Seattle all the life they needed to rally and punch their ticket to Super Bowl XLIX at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

After special teams coach Shawn Slocum was fired, it appears the Packers have found their man to turn around their special teams unit.
The Packers have promoted from within, making the very experienced Ron Zook their new special teams coach. Zook, 60, has coached for over 35 years and brings a plethora of knowledge and experience to a unit that needs it more than any other team in the league.
Other special teams coaches around the league think Zook is the right guy for the job too.
āRonās a dynamic guy,ā an NFL special teams coach said to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, āFull of piss and vinegar. He was so ambitious before. He was always looking for that next job. Now heāll probably do a better job coaching special teams.ā
The players on Green Bay like his energy that he brings as well and think the positive environment will help improve them overall.
āBrings a lot of passion to everything he does,ā Safety Chris Banjo said, āNot just football. Everything. Really in tune with everything. Real fun being around. In everything he does itās to make you a better player. Heās always trying to get you to the next level.ā
After a heartbreaking loss in the NFC Championship, Green is looking to bounce back next season and continue their dream of another Lombardi Trophy.
While the loss to Seattle still stings, they are making changes to not allow the mistakes of the NFC Championship to happen again.
Hiring an energetic guy like Zook who has a passion for coaching is the first step in correcting their mistakes. If Zook can fix the special teams and make them one of the leagues better units, Green Bay should be in the running with the other contenders when it is all said and done.
At the very least, he can get the right guys on the hands team for onside kick recoveries.
