Richard Sherman may need Tommy John surgery, Russell Wilson plans to join Rangers for spring training for a second straight year.

Pete Carroll maybe a football coach but he seems to have some baseball related issues on his hands.  Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman suffered some torn ligaments in his elbow during the NFC championship game against the Green Bay Packers.  Initially Sherman was diagnosed with an elbow sprain which he played through during the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.

Torn elbow ligaments which is usually more of an issue for MLB pitchers, is regularly repaired using a procedure donned Tommy John surgery, named after the first pitcher to go under the knife for the procedure.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was skeptical while talking to an ESPN reporter that Sherman may not need the surgery.

This report is contrary to an earlier report on February 2nd, where Carroll had comments passed to Adam Caplan of ESPN that Sherman would indeed need a surgery.

Surgery or no surgery, Carroll is confident that Sherman will be ready to strap on his helmet at the beginning of next season, as he told Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports who went on to draw a comparison to the Sherman injury.

Sherman isn’t the only Seahawks player who is starting to make Carroll feel more like the manager of the Seattle Mariners.  Quarterback Russell Wilson will return to the Texas Rangers in some capacity during spring training as reported by various news outlets.  Details are not yet fully fleshed out, however it maybe similar to last year as Wilson visited the Rangers during spring training and also posed for photos wearing a Rangers number three uniform.

Wilson was drafted during the 2010 amateur draft by the Colorado Rockies and went on to play for the A-affiliate Tri-City Dust Devils, here Wilson finished with a .230 batting average while competing in 32 games playing second base.  In 2011 Wilson returned to baseball playing in 61 games for the Asheville Tourists where he batted .228.  It was following this season that Wilson decided to focus on football.

The Rangers couldn’t resist drafting the then Super Bowl champ to their roster going into last year’s baseball season where Wilson took the time to show up for a few days of last year’s spring training.  Wilson is technically a member of the team’s AAA roster, which is a tactical move to keep teams from drafting him away.
