5 Fantasy Football Offseason Storylines to Watch

Although the NFL season is over, there are still a number of things to look forward to. First, we’ll have the NFL combine where we get to watch players such as Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston and Melvin Gordon show off their skills. Following the combine, we’ll have the 2015 NFL draft which is sure to have a large impact on the fantasy landscape. Finally, there is a free agency period that will determine where players like Demarco Murray, Justin Forsett, Shane Vereen, Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas and Randall Cobb will play in 2015.

Of all the notable stories to follow, here are five that are sure to generate a lot of buzz.

5. Peyton Manning’s Return to the Broncos

All signs indicate that Peyton will return in 2015.  In fact, NFL Media’s Gil Brandt recently tweeted that Manning is almost certain to return to the Broncos next year. Although Manning was a borderline first round pick in 2014, his late season struggles may push him to the 3rd or 4th round in 2015.

4. The Status of Adrian Peterson

The situation surrounding Adrian Peterson goes far beyond fantasy football, but his status for next year is a huge storyline. Peterson has been one of the top fantasy football running backs since his NFL debut, despite a gruesome ACL injury in  2011. With DeMarco Murray also hitting free agency, there are rumors that Peterson could play in a Cowboys uniform in 2015. Whether the Cowboys will have enough money under the cap for both Peterson and Dez Bryant could be a different story, however.

3. Denver’s Decision with Julius Thomas

Julius Thomas has established himself one of the top tight ends in the NFL, after scoring 24 touchdowns in the last two years. The Broncos’ top priority in 2015 will be to sign Demaryius Thomas to a long term contract, so the young tight end is no lock to return to Denver. Thomas is an elite player at a very weak position, so his landing spot in 2015 will have major fantasy implications.

2. Frank Gore’s Future with San Francisco

Despite rushing for 1,000 yards for the fourth straight season in 2014, Gore only found the end zone 5 times. Gore lost a number of goal line touches to Carlos Hyde, who showed a lot of promise during his rookie campaign. Whichever RB is named the starter in 2015 is poised for a big fantasy season, as the 49ers consistently finish in the top 5 for total rushing yards in the NFL.

1. The Return of Justin Blackmon

Although the future for Josh Gordon does not look bright, Justin Blackmon may be back in the offensive mix for the Jaguars in 2015. One of the most athletically gifted players in the entire NFL, Blackmon could have a big fantasy football impact next year. His return would also boost the fantasy value of second year QB Blake Bortles, who finished had a disappointing rookie campaign with 11 TD’s and 17 INT’s.
