Charles Haley shared his thoughts on Tom Brady’s accomplishments

Newly elected Pro Football Hall of Famer Charles Haley says he believes that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s four Super Bowl wins are “tainted,” partially die to the “defaletgate” scandal.

Haley, who was elected to the Hall of Fame last weekend, is the only player in NFL history with five Super Bowl rings, winning two with the San Francisco 49ers and three with the Dallas Cowboys.

More from New England Patriots

Haley was being interviewed by the Talk of Fame Network, and was asked who he would take between Joe Montana and Tom Brady. Haley picked Montana, and then said of Brady:

“Joe didn’t have to cheat,” Haley said. “I’ve lost all respect [for Brady]. When your integrity is challenged in the game of football, to me, all his Super Bowls are tainted. You have to say this just didn’t happen overnight. Who wants that shadow over them? I could be wrong. But I realize there were 12 balls deflated and 12 ain’t.”

Haley thought that “something is wrong,” after seeing Patriots head coach Bill Belichick explain multiple times what he thought happened to the football.

The NFL is still investigating if the over the Indianapolis Colts.

“This is what Charles Haley believes — it’s going to come back to haunt him one day,” Haley said (yes, he’s referring to himself in the third person, Rickey Henderson-style). “If the league doesn’t come down on this guy… Everybody is talking about it. Nobody believes it was by accident. It is what it is.”

Brady is now tied with Montana for the most Super Bowl wins by a quarterback in history with four.

Brady and Belichick both strenuously denied any knowledge of how the footballs got deflated, but have still been the subject of much controversy and blame.

It doesn’t help that this is not the first scandal involving the Patriots–the famous “spygate” scandal occurred at the beginning of their 16-0 season of 2007, which doesn’t exactly help the Patriots’ believability with the media or the public right now. Still, two facts remain: one, no matter how inflated the footballs are, you still have to be really, really good to win four Super Bowls; and two, we have got to stop calling every scandal something-gate. Let’s get original, guys.
