The Los Angeles Lakers have wanted to acquire Phoenix Suns point guard Goran Dragic all season long, and the trade deadline is coming up quickly on February 19th.

Goran Dragic was one of the NBA’s biggest breakout stars last year with the Phoenix Suns, and he was expected to take another step this year. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case yet, even though he has been putting up consistently solid numbers throughout the season.

There has been quite a bit of drama at the guard position after the Suns signed Isaiah Thomas in free agency, and Eric Bledsoe got a big extension as well.

Rumors have swirled all year about the availability of Dragic, but the Suns would rather keep him than trade him. That being said, they may not have a choice but to trade him if they decide that they want to get some kind of value out of him. Dragic will be a free agent at the season’s end, and has every intention of exploring the market.

According to a report from Sporting News, the Los Angeles Lakers have wanted to acquire Dragic all year-long. Perhaps they could be a team that makes a play for him ahead of the February 19th trading deadline.

Phoenix would likely be open to a trade offer at the right price, but the Lakers would have a hard time coming up with an offer that would help and intrigue the Suns. They have some talent on the roster, but unless they’re willing to add draft picks probably don’t have the type of pieces necessary to make a deal.

Dragic has been putting together another solid season, averaging 16.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game. He is shooting 50.2 percent from the field overall and 34.7 percent from behind the three-point arc. Those percentages show just how potent he has been on the offensive end of the court, but he hasn’t gotten the chance to play his game with the three-guard rotation.

It certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see the Suns dangle Dragic before the deadline to see what type of value they could get for him. The last thing they want to do is let him walk away for nothing in free agency.

All of that being said, the Lakers are a team to keep an eye on at the deadline. They know that they need to make some moves in order to surround Kobe Bryant with talent for one more run next season, and Dragic would be the point guard that they have desperately needed as well.
