Richard Sherman and his girlfriend, Ashley Moss, welcomed their son into the world on Thursday.

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was in danger of missing the Super Bowl because his girlfriend, Ashely Moss, was due to go into labor any day. Sherman lucked out, as his son was able to hold on until Thursday to be born, letting his father play in the Super Bowl.

The kid is already obedient.

What’s interesting is not only that he wasn’t born on Super Bowl Sunday so his father could play in the game, but the date of the day he ended up being born on.

2/5/15 was his son’s date of birth, and Richard Sherman wears number 25. See what he did there?

Sherman and Ashley named their son Rayden. Wait, isn’t that a character from Mortal Kombat? Isn’t he the guy with the lightning and the sombrero? That’s a pretty cool name, though. Not sure if he purposely named him after the Mortal Kombat character, or just like the name and already had it picked out.

Either way, awesome name Sherman.

It’s probably the best consolation prize you can get after a disappointing loss in the Super Bowl this past Sunday to the New England Patriots. The Seahawks were half a yard away from capturing back-to-back Super Bowl Championships, but decided to pass the ball to a slant-route on second down instead of handing the ball off to Marshawn Lynch and having him beast mode his way into the end zone.

It’s a tough pill to swallow for Sherman, but this certainly will more than help fill the void of losing a second championship.

Russell Wilson has already called dibs on babysitting baby Rayden. Russell seems like he would be a tremendous nanny.
