The New York Knicks appear close to buying out Amare Stoudemire this season, and teams are already lining up to take a crack at him.

With the devastatingly inept New York Knicks going nowhere this season, the team is looking to toss fuel overboard in their efforts to tank as much as they can. The J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert trade was a prime example of this and buying out Amare Stoudemire would be the latest chapter.

There is no buyout agreement in place and the Knicks haven’t yet talked to Stoudemire about the possibility of being bought out. But should that happen, there are already teams lining up to take a crack at getting the veteran big man on their roster in time for the postseason.

According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the Los Angeles Clippers have expressed indirect interest in Amare Stoudemire, should he become available on the buyout market after the All-Star Game next weekend. In addition to the Clippers, Spears points out that both the Portland Trail Blazers and Dallas Mavericks have the means and the need to pursue Stoudemire as well.

That’s not surprising though, as even though the Knicks are increasingly disinterested in keeping Stoudemire around, he has value int he NBA and contending teams will take a chance on him.

Those three teams likely won’t be the only teams with interest either. The Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and others will likely weigh in as well with interest, but the levels of sincerity in that interest are yet to be determined. Nevertheless, there is a market for Stoudmire outside that of a trade and he won’t last long if he’s bought out by the Knicks this season.
