If there are any other ladies out there looking only for money and literally nothing else, well, good news, Alex Rodriguez is now available. Not that he wasn’t before, considering all the cheating rumors, but you know, in an official capacity or something. New York Post Page Six reports that A-Rod and former WWE gal Torrie Wilson are now an official split, due to his lack of interest in serious commitment.
Because no one expected that, right? Apparently his ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis is also too involved in his life for Wilson’s liking, even spending the summer with Scurtis, Wilson and his two daughters. Further, the two reportedly used to fight all the time about A-Rod’s constant flirting with other women, even Yankees fans, as Larry Brown Sports notes. Despite that, they’ve been dating for at least a few years, according to most sources.
Apparently there were a few people in the Yankees organization that thought Wilson was a good influence on A-Rod and that he really doesn’t need to be distracted by dating and women as he tries to get his career back on track.
The funny thing is that A-Rod split with Scurtis over his public cheating and is now splitting with Wilson at least partly due to Scurtis’ involvement in A-Rod’s life.
A-Rod is coming off a suspension of 162 games for using performance enhancing drugs. He is due to meet with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and possibly other members of the front office before spring training. He reportedly wants to have a face-to-face apology to the organization and tried to achieve that in November, but the front office refused because Rodriguez still had pending litigation against the team. Once he withdrew the litigation, the organization accepted the meeting.
Rodriguez is still owed $61 million over the next three years by the Yankees, but the team has pretty much marginalized his involvement by signing third baseman Chase Headley, something they likely would not have done if they thought A-Rod was a viable option at the position. They further stated publicly that A-Rod would not be the starter at that position going forward.
A-Rod is expected to play at DH and probably come off the bench for Headley. Of course, both of those positions largely depend on how he does in spring training.
