Amare Stoudemire rumors: Mavericks the front runners to pursue Stoudemire
By Jack Crosby
The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly ready to pounce if Amare Stoudemire takes a buyout from his Knicks contract
Heading down the home stretch of the NBA season, it goes without saying that the Dallas Mavericks would love some help as they pursue a Western Conference title, especially on the inside. Well that help could reportedly come in the form of the New York Knicks’ Amare Stoudemire.
While it’s already known that the Knicks will be dumping the large contract of Stoudemire at the end of the year, there is still a chance that they could offer him a buyout rather soon, which would not only create some nice cap space for them, but it would allow the veteran big man to sign on with a contender. Reportedly, Stoudemire is considering that deal and will take the All-Star break to see if that’s a road he would like to go down.
Well also, reportedly, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Mavericks are ready to swoop in quickly, should Stoudemire hit the market early.
"The Dallas Mavericks would be considered front-runners to sign Amar’e Stoudemire if the 13-year veteran opts to pursue a contract buyout from the New York Knicks, according to league sources.Stoudemire made it clear in his public comments that he’s not yet sure if he wants to seek a buyout from the Knicks to join a contender for the stretch run, but sources told ESPN.com that Dallas has quickly emerged as a prime landing spot if he becomes a free agent."
This will be an interesting situation to watch play out, and you would have to assume that Stoudemire is leaning towards heading to the Mavericks. Not only would he be with a contender in Dallas, but given Mark Cuban’s track record with loyalty to productive players, he could very well find a new home for the home stretch of his career, should he play well with the Mavs.
