According to Variety, Brian Williams will be leaving NBC News for the time being after the controversy over his phony war story has rocked the broadcasting world.

"Brian Williams said he will take a break “for the next several days” from, “NBC Nightly News,”  the network’s flagship evening newscast, in the wake of his disclosure this week that he had made false claims about a 2003 newsgathering expedition in Iraq."

If you missed the story, the controversy stems from the fact that Brian Williams has been telling a war story about his helicopter being shot down by an RPG in Iraq despite the fact that no such thing occurred to him. A helicopter that was in Williams line of sight was shot down while in Iraq — which is still an intense story — but his helicopter was not.

Williams, who has long been the face of NBC Nightly News, has now watched as his credibility has crumbled right before his eyes and his prestige image is forever stained. He is andiron investigation by NBC and for the time being will be replaced by Lester Holt.
