Chris Paul fined $25K for criticizing officiating

Regardless of context, Chris Paul will have to pay up to the NBA for criticizing an official
Whether they were sexist or not, Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul will have to dip into his wallet and pay up to the NBA for his recent criticism of rookie female official Lauren Holtkamp. Because of the comments, Paul will have to send a check to the NBA to the tune of $25,000.
Paul received a technical foul from Holtkamp on Thursday night during the team’s loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, a call which he obviously didn’t agree with. After the game, Paul made the comment that the refereeing profession in the NBA just “might not be for her” if she’s going to make a call like that. Of course, many people immediately took the comments as sexist.
Prior to the Clippers’ game on Friday against the Toronto Raptors, Paul clarified that his comments were about nothing more than a bad call.
“Last night was about a bad call. That’s all.” Paul said via ESPN.com.
Whatever the context of the comments was doesn’t really matter. The fact of the matter is that Paul publicly criticized an NBA official, a big no-no in any sport, really. So now, he has to pay the price–literally.
