The VCU Rams were on the wrong end of an upset against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Saturday and it could change things for March.

After becoming a cinderella team themselves a few years ago, the VCU Rams have the bar set a lot higher nowadays than it once was, and it makes losses of the upset variety a lot more devastating. Case and point being their devastating buzzer beater defeat at the hands of St. Bonaventure, a school looking to compile some signature wins to try and get into the March Madness dance this year.

Things were tight and went down to the wire, but it ended up being Marcus Posley with the game-winning layup to finish VCU off at the buzzer and complete the improbable upset.

While it may not be a March Madness upset in reality, it felt like on in style and substance. The game was tightly contested the whole way through and it’s something that gave the game the feel of a March Madness upset.

Of course, the loss certainly doesn’t help VCU at all and drops their record to 18-5 overall. They can also expect to drop from their No. 18 ranking in the country but the panic levels shouldn’t chart too high for VCU fans wondering of this loss puts them on any sort of bubble.

The Rams won’t fall out of the Top 25, but it’s a win for the Bonnies that could end up propelling them to a bid in the Tournament as Selection Sunday approaches and wins like this one become more and more important.
