At this point in time, there is “little chance” that the Green Bay Packers don’t end up re-signing wide receiver Randall Cobb in free agency this offseason.

Randall Cobb was a huge part of the Green Bay Packers offense this past season, and will hit the free agency market this coming offseason. The Packers are still hurting after their embarrassing collapse against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game, but can’t afford to dwell on that with a very important offseason coming up.

There are going to be quite a few teams trying to convince Cobb to leave Green Bay, but there is “little chance” that he ends up leaving the Packers according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.

Cobb put up an impressive 2014 season, catching 91 passes for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. He formed arguably the NFL’s best wide receiver tandem alongside of Jordy Nelson, and it gave Aaron Rodgers a two-headed monster that not many defenses could defend against. At just 24 years of age, Cobb has a lot of great football left in him.

Obviously signing such a young, talented player to a long-term contract is going to be very pricey for the Packers. They will have some money to spend, but it could be a stretch to give Cobb as much money as he will want. That being said, they aren’t going to allow him to walk away unless the price is absolutely ridiculous.

From ESPN:

"All kidding aside, there seems little chance the Packers would let Cobb walk, but don’t expect a deal to get done much before the start of free agency. Last year’s negotiation with cornerback Sam Shields went right up until the moment that free agency opened. If you’re Cobb and Sexton, you might as well wait to see if you can get every penny possible out of the Packers, who appear willing to pay the going rate."

It is going to be very intriguing to see what teams jump in on the pursuit of Cobb. There are plenty of teams in need of help at the wide receiver position, and plenty of teams that can afford to give Cobb a very lucrative offer.

Despite all of the interest that he is going to receive, Cobb has already made it clear that he loves Green Bay and wants to get a new deal done with the Packers. They feel the same way about him, and even though there is likely to be some negotiating the two sides will do so respectfully and work together to get something done.

Expect to see quite a bit of player movement in free agency this offseason, but don’t expect Cobb to be one of those players moving.
