The UNC fans are pouring out in droves to pay tribute to legendary coach Dean Smith
The basketball world lost one of its greatest minds Sunday as legendary North Carolina head coach Dean Smith passed away at the age of 83. Smith, of course, brought two national championships to the program and won a gold medal with the US Olympic team in 1976.

After hearing about the news of his passing, fans, coaches, former players and many others have been paying tribute to the coach and everything he had done.
Fans have also begun laying flowers outside the Dean Smith Center, aptly named after the coach where North Carolina plays their home games.
The message from the fans is simple, āThank you, Coach Smith.ā The message was on a hand-written sign where all the flowers left by people are being placed.
In his career, Smith had won 879 games, which at the time was a record. Smith, however, will be remembered for the big strides he made in shaping college basketball and the impacts he made on the lives around him.
Smith was one of the greats, and the fans are coming out to recognize him for everything he has done for the game of basketball.
