Report: Packers’ Mike McCarthy giving up play calling
By Evan Massey
Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has decided to shake up his coaching staff and give up his play calling duties to Tom Clements.
Mike McCarthy and the Green Bay Packers are still fresh off of their disappointing loss against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game, and there are quite a few things they would like to go back and change.

That being said, they are now focused on the offseason and head coach Mike McCarthy is already making changes for next year. He has shaken up his coaching staff, and will give up play calling duties. Tom Clements will be stepping into an associated head coach role, and will be given the play calling duties, while Edgar Bennett will be their offensive coordinator.
It is the right move after the questionable play calling that McCarthy was bashed for on multiple occasions this past season.
Green Bay is expected to be a Super Bowl contender once again in 2015, but these changes could make for a slow start to the season offensively. Even with Aaron Rodgers leading the way, it will take some time for him to get used to Clements. They will have to figure each other out throughout the course of the season, but Rodgers will be much better than most other quarterbacks.

This is exactly the move that Packers fans were hoping for this offseason. McCarthy has had a rough history of making bad calls in key situations, and even if Clements makes the same mistakes fans will have seen a change.
Clements is walking into a very good situation with the Packers. Obviously with Rodgers as the quarterback they will be just fine through the air, but Eddie Lacy showed his star potential late in the season. He is going to continue being a huge part of the Packers’ offensive game plans next year.
One key this offseason for the Packers will be figuring out how to bring back star wide receiver Randall Cobb. He is a free agent and will receive quite a bit of interest from other NFL teams. It is going to be expensive for the Packers to bring him back, but they can’t afford to let him walk.
Needless to say, it is going to be interesting to see what ends up happening next year with the Packers offense. If they take a step forward, it will prove the concerns that almost every Packers fan has had over the past couple of seasons with McCarthy making the play calls.
