The Sacramento Kings are still chasing George Karl to be their next head coach despite some snags in the contract discussions.

George Karl was one of the best head coaches in the NBA for quite a few years with the Denver Nuggets, and has racked up a career record of 1,887-1,131. The Sacramento Kings are searching for a new head coach, and they have zeroed in on Karl as their preferred candidate to hire for the job.

There have been some snags in the discussions, but the Kings remain strongly committed to figuring out a deal with Karl.

While there is major hope from both the Kings and Karl that something can be worked out, there is no guarantee that he will be their next head coach. He would be an ideal pickup for the talent that the Kings have put together, and could likely take them over the hump and into playoff contention. Having talent like DeMarcus Cousins, Darren Collison, Rudy Gay, and Ben McLemore, there is no reason that the Kings shouldn’t be a playoff contender.

So far this season, the Kings are just 17-32. At the beginning of the year, they were considered a surprise playoff contender but have since fallen apart. Part of that has to do with coaching on-the-court, and a lot more of it has to do with the off-the-floor part of the coaching job.

Sacramento’s key players simply aren’t working well together and they don’t seem motivated to win basketball games. There is no excuse for a team as talented as the Kings to be 15 games under .500.

Expect to see Karl named the next head coach of the Kings, especially with all of the loops that both sides have jumped through already. The Kings have made it very clear that the want to bring Karl in, and Karl wants to get back into the coaching side of basketball.

It would be a huge step in the right direction for the Kings, and they are without a doubt a team that Karl could take to the next level. There are a few other head coaching candidates available that would make sense for Sacramento, but the veteran experience that Karl would bring to the table would be valuable.

Simply seeing that the Kings are working so hard to bring in a quality head coach is a very encouraging sign for their fans.
