Better Call Saul: What did Tuco do?

Better Call Saul returned with another episode tonight and we all got to see what Tuco was up to and what happened after he took Frick, Frack and Saul hostage.

On the pilot episode of Better Call Saul, things were left when the skaters twins popularly known as Frick and Frack were taken hostage by the psychotic Tuco with Saul joining the party soon after that. The question wasn’t if Saul was going to die, it was what sort of warped situation would come from this entire botched con that went down.

What ensued was hardly the status quo or what we expected as we were all given some insight into who Saul really is and some of the first footsteps he takes into becoming the person he was in Breaking bad.

Tuco and his partner Nacho dragged Saul and the twins out the desert — one we’ve seen Saul in before, like when he first met Walter and Jesse.

Rather than give up the twins to die, Saul can’t bring himself to leave and save himself without also saving the lives of the duo he got involved in this mess. Using his genius way with words and his expert taste for bulls-t, Saul talked his way out of being killed and talked Tuco down from giving the twins Columbian Neck Ties to simply breaking their legs.

What this showed was the humanity of Saul, and just how good he actually is at his job. It may not have been a court case that he was winning, but he talked a pair of men down from the death penalty to six months probation. That may be the first time he was in they predicament but it won’t be the last.
