The Bulls legend made a mistake when autographing a poster for the President

He may be the Greatest, but that doesn’t apply to spelling.

As revealed in an interview with New York Magazine, political adviser David Axelrod once asked Michael Jordan, the Bulls legend and current Hornets owner, for an autographed poster on behalf of the President of the United States, Barack Obama, whose love of basketball is well-documented.

Jordan sent the poster, but there was an issue.

“When the president turned 50, I wanted to get him something special … so I sent it to Jordan to have him sign it for me.” In black Sharpie, Jordan wrote, “To Barrack: you still owe me dinner. Wishing you well, Michael Jordan,” Axelrod related to New York Magazine. “I gave it to the president, and he said, ‘I can’t put this up, he misspelled my name!’ So I said, ‘Fine, I’ll take it.'”

So Jordan thinks our country is led by a man named after a place where soldiers sleep? All right then.

On the scale of things Jordan does well, it would seem that spelling the President’s name is more toward the “drafting number one picks” side of things than the “playing basketball” side.

But–conspiracy theory alert!!!–maybe Axelrod asked Jordan to spell the name wrong so he could keep the poster for himself? Keep an open mind on this one; it makes sense as long as you don’t think about it much.

The simplest reaction to this would be to say that Jordan really should know how to spell the President’s name. Then again, he’s Michael Jordan; he once saved the planet with help from Bugs Bunny, he can do what he wants.

In fact, if MJ thinks it’s “Barrack,” Obama should have the common decency to change it to “Barrack.” Have some respect, Mr. President!
