Nebraska defensive end Randy Gregory thinks he should be the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Randy Gregory was one of the best pass rushers in college football his two years at Nebraska and now the former Cornhusker wants NFL teams to know he should be the first pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Gregory led the Big Ten in sacks with 9.5 in his first year at Nebraska in 2013 to put him in position to be one of the better pass rushers in college football for the 2014 season. He missed some time with injury in 2014 but still finished with seven sacks and was named to the first team All-Big Ten for a second straight year.
At 6-6, 245 pounds and the ability to get to the quarterback he will be an attractive candidate for teams looking to improve their pass rush and Gregory doesn’t think he should have to wait too long to hear his name called in the upcoming draft.
“I think I’m worthy of the No. 1 pick,” Gregory told USA Today. “I would hope anybody in the draft would want to be the No. 1 pick. I know how I am as a player. I know my potential. I know what I can do. I know what I bring to a team. And I understand that this position is a premium. Everyone wants someone that can get to the quarterback. Everyone wants a quarterback. Everyone wants a left tackle that can block that guy that wants to get to the quarterback. I understand the game and where it’s headed, and I understand that there’s a big need, a big demand. I definitely think I’m worthy.”
I would hope elite talents like Gregory all believe they are worthy of the No. 1 pick, it comes with the territory of being a competitor and if a player didn’t feel that way, I’m not sure I want that guy on my team.
Gregory didn’t say he should be the top pick, just that he thinks he as the type of potential and skill set that is in demand and could merit being the top selection, but also recognizes quarterbacks are in demand too.
Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston are the top two quarterbacks in the draft and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, owners of the top pick are in dire need of a franchise quarterback, so unless the Bucs trade the pick Gregory may have to settle for being a top-five pick.
Gregory’s biggest question mark moving forward in the predraft process is his weight because at 245 pounds he is built more like an outside linebacker for a 3-4 defense than a 4-3 end. If Gregory can add good weight between now and the draft he could be a menace in the 265-pound range, even if he’s not the No. 1 pick.
