North Carolina fans and students alike lined up to get a paper honoring the legendary coach


After the basketball world lost one of their greatest minds yesterday, people poured into the streets and social media to give thanks one last time to Dean Smith. Smith transcended the game of basketball, winning national championships, an Olympic medal, recruiting African American players while standing up against racism and making sure his players graduated.

The Daily Tar Heel which is the newspaper for the University of North Carolina, had their issue today honoring the legendary coach and the line for the issue was incredible.

Fans and students alike got in line to grab the historical copy honoring their coach. It even got to the point that they ran out of papers and people began scalping them.

The impact Dean Smith had was already known and this photo further proves how much he meant to everyone. The good news for those that weren’t able to get a copy, further issues were printed out after they ran out.

Yesterday fans placed flowers in front of the Dean Smith Center, where North Carolina plays their home games. Today they once again came out to get the newspaper honoring their longtime coach.

Everyone is paying tribute to Smith, and rightfully so.
