Veteran guard Ray Allen has taken his time finding an NBA team this season. He was linked to several contenders in the offseason but never signed, and teams have continued to express interest in Allen as the season has progressed.
Now a report has surfaced that Allen may not sign with anyone at all, but may elect to stay out of the game.
Ray Allen has enjoyed his family time and golf time in Miami, and sources close to him make it clear he may decide not to resume NBA career.

Allen, 39, last played for the Miami Heat last season, where he averaged 9.6 points per game and shot 37.5 percent from beyond the arc.
This story runs in conjunction with another report that came out today, which said that Allen would make his decision by the All-Star Break (Feb. 13-15). If this report is to be believed, the decision might not be about which team to sign with, but whether he will sign with a team at all.
Allen is the NBA’s all-time leading three-point shooter, and despite his age, would still be a valuable weapon for contending teams, as evidenced by his play for the Heat the last two years, where he was a key contributor to the two-time Eastern Conference champions. The Heat most likely would not have won their second championship were it not for Allen’s already legendary three (video below, because any excuse to watch that shot is a good one).
Allen has been linked at various points to the Hawks, Wizards, Warriors, and Cavaliers, among other teams.
A similar report came out in December from ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, saying that Allen was leaning toward retirement.
If this is it for Allen, he will likely be headed for the Hall of Fame. Allen would retire as a two-time NBA champion, and the all-time leader in three-pointers made and attempted. He is also 14th all time in minutes played, fifth all-time in free throw percentage, and 28th all-time in Win Shares (per Basketball-Reference). His 19-year career has been spent with the Bucks, Sonics (R.I.P.), Celtics and Heat.
