Report: Sacramento Kings offer contract to George Karl
By Evan Massey
The Sacramento Kings have officially offered a contract to George Karl that would make him their next head coach.
George Karl has had a very successful career in the NBA as a head coach, and the Sacramento Kings are pushing to bring him on board as their next head coach. According to a report from Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report, the Kings have officially offered a contract to Karl.
Needless to say, the Kings would be taking a huge step forward if they are able to hire Karl to be their head coach. There is no question that the Kings have the talent to be contenders for a playoff spot, but they simply aren’t playing together and there is no cohesiveness throughout the entire organization. Perhaps the addition of a veteran, experienced head coach could help that.

Karl has compiled a 1,887-1,131 record throughout his coaching career, and could help bring some of that experience to the Kings. They haven’t had a winning mindset for quite some time, and that will need to change before they can live up to their full potential.
Sacramento has put together a lot of talent in DeMarcus Cousins, Rudy Gay, Darren Collison and Ben McLemore. They are probably a piece or two away from being a true force in the West, but there is no reason that they are 14 games under .500 at this point in the same. There was a point early on in the year that they looked like a legitimate contender, but they have fallen apart in a big way.
Their biggest downfalls have been on the defensive end of the court and in the teamwork side of the game. They are ranked just 30th in the NBA in assists per game, averaging 19.2 assists per game. Defensively they are ranked 27th in the league, giving up 104.1 points per game.
Those numbers simply aren’t going to get the job done for the Kings, and they need to bring in a coach that can change those issues.
It won’t all come down to the hiring of Karl, but he would be a big step in the right direction. He won’t allow players to play a selfish brand of basketball, and he will focus much more on defense than the Kings have in quite some time.
While the Kings have made a formal contract offer, the deal isn’t done just yet. Karl will still need to agree to the terms, but this is certainly a big development in the negotiations.
