2015 Fantasy Football Outlook for the New York Jets

The New York Jets’ are going through some serious changes in 2015 which could have a significant impact from a fantasy perspective. The New York Jets roster has plenty of talent, but it remains to be seen what type of impact new head coach Todd Bowles and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey will have. With dynamic Wide Receivers such as Eric Decker and Percy Harvin, and an effective running back with Chris Ivory, the biggest question mark at this point is quarterback Geno Smith.

The third year quarterback from West Virginia has been inconsistent and sporadic, to say the least, and rumors indicate that he may be out of New York soon. According to Rich Cimini, the Jets may be interested in Ryan Fitzpatrick, along with Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. While we wait for that situation to unfold, let’s discuss the top fantasy players on the New York Jets including Chris Johnson, Percy Harvin, and Eric Decker.

Percy Harvin – It was only a few years ago that Percy Harvin was one of the most talked about WR’s in the NFL. After signing a five year, $64,245,000 contract extension with the Seahawks on March 13, 2013, Harvin only played in one regular season game, registering one catch for 17 yards (although he did return a kick for a TD in the Super Bowl). Harvin is a rare talent in the NFL, and I’m expecting a bounce back year in 2015.

Eric Decker – Decker registered 74 catches for 962 yards and 5 TD’s for the worst passing offense in the NFL in 2014. With a more adept QB under center in 2015, Decker may be closer to the 87 catch, 1,288 yards and 11 touchdowns that he posted with the Broncos in 2013.

Chris Johnson – If the New York Jets release Chris Johnson before February 16th, they will save $3.5 million!  The former all-pro only managed 814 combined yards and two touchdowns on 179 touches in 2014, and he’ll turn 30 on September 23rd. If Johnson is dropped from the Jets roster, Chris Ivory will be the bell-cow back, and RB2 duties will likely go to Bilal Powell or Daryl Richardson.

The wild card in this situation is offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, who has devised a run-first offense with the Pittsburgh Steelers and pass-happy offense with the Bills. Although the 2015 fantasy outlook for the New York Jets does’t look amazing, it’s certainly looking better than 2014!
