Antique Chicago Blackhawks jersey appraised at $10K
Although Virgil Johnson didn’t do much to contribute to the Chicago Blackhawks 1933 Stanley Cup championship, his jersey is still being appraised at around $10,000.
During the 1932-1933 NHL season, Virgil Johnson didn’t play much of a role in the Chicago Blackhawks’ Stanley Cup victory.

However, his jersey is still worth a fortune.
The 77-year-old Black Hawks (yes, two words) sweater was brought to the “Antiques Roadshow” in Austin Texas by a woman who is married to Johnson’s grandson. It is currently being appraised at around $7,000-$10,000, though the rare piece of memorabilia could demand an even greater price tag.
Having made only a single goal, and a total of 12 points within the duration his 75-game career, he wasn’t necessarily a ‘star player’ for the ‘Hawks. That didn’t stop Johnson, however, from later being inducted into the United States NHL Hall of Fame in 1974 for his contribution to the championship.
Although the sweater isn’t necessarily in mint condition, $10K is considered “museum value”, and could be worth even more if it were in better condition. This type of notoriety proves that you don’t have to score a single point in the Stanley Cup finals, yet you can still have an increased legacy just for being part of one.
This has been a great month for memorabilia collectors.
Along with the vintage Black Hawks sweater, we have seen a rare Shoeless Joe Jackson autograph surfaced and be valued at around $100,000, while another couple stumbled onto a sweater at Goodwill which cost only 58 cents. That sweater later turned out to be one originally owned by legendary NFL coach Vince Lombardi and it is valued around $20,000.
