The NFL seems to have some suspicions about St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris Long

Someone at the NFL seems to have their eyes on Chris Long.

The St. Louis Rams defensive end tweeted Monday that he has been tested for steroids twice in the past days.

This means that the NFL’s testing of Long in 2015 is roughly the exact opposite of how often Barry Bonds was tested for steroids in 2001. It’s like looking at a funhouse mirror, isn’t it, Bud Selig?

The league implemented a new testing policy for steroids this past September.

The NFL drug testing policy does not have clear guidelines as to how often a player can be tested.

According to the NFL’s substance abuse policy (read it if you dare), during the offseason, a player can be randomly tested up to six times. This includes free agents, who don’t have a team.

To “opt out” of this testing, you have to be formally retired.

During the preseason/season/postseason, ten players can be randomly tested each week. Any other testings happen upon agreement in the player’s contract—which may be different for different players.

Players who have tested positive for a banned substance can subsequently be tested at any time. However, it is unlikely that Long tested positive, for the simple reason that if he was using a banned substance, he wouldn’t have tweeted about the tests. Unless, of course, he is completely devoid of common sense, but there’s no evidence of that.

Long, the son of Hall of Famer Howie Long and brother of Bears guard Kyle Long, is officially listed at 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds. He has 51.5 sacks in his six seasons, all with the Rams.
