Colin Kaepernick, Anquan Boldin excited about new OC
By Cory Buck
The San Francisco 49ers have hired Geep Chryst as their new offensive coordinator and several players on offense are excited.
The San Francisco 49ers announced the completion of the hiring process for their coaching staff on Monday and it was music to the ears of quarterback Colin Kaepernick and wide receiver Anquan Boldin, who learned that quarterbacks coach Geep Chryst had been promoted to offensive coordinator by new 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula.

“I’m very excited about Geep being our OC,” Kaepernick said, per Niner Nation. “Great person, brilliant guy. And I think he’s very open to what the players input is during the game, during the week. And also, open to taking shots down the field and opening up the playbook. So, excited to see what he has in store for us.”
Taking shots down the field looked like five words of gibberish applied to the 49ers offense in 2014, which can largely be summed up as the worst in Colin Kaepernick’s NFL career. While Kaepernick did actually post the most passing yards of his career, his yards-per-attempt were the lowest of his career as a starter and he also had his worst career QBR in 2014 along with his most interceptions.
As a result of Kaepernick’s struggles, the 49ers fell to third place in the NFC West with an 8-8 record. Their coaching staff was cut off at the top when the team and coach Jim Harbaugh ‘parted ways‘, leaving some to wonder whether Kaepernick’s days in the Bay Area were numbered.
It appears the team is doubling down on Kaepernick and his crew though, as the same man who has been coaching Kap for his NFL career will now be heading up the entire offense.
“I’ve known Geep for a long time,” Boldin said, also per Niner Nation. “He was actually my quarterbacks coach in Arizona my rookie year. He’s a great football mind, and I think he can bring a spark to the offense.”
Boldin’s rookie year remains one of the best of his career. He tallied 1,377 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on a moribund Cardinals team, which speaks to the prowess of Chryst, who will now be tasked with getting the offense back on track. That starts with the connection between Kaepernick and Boldin, who posted his second straight 1,000 yard season as a 49ers receiver.
