Dallas Stars’ Antoine Roussel to have hearing over cross check (Video)
By Phil Watson
Forward Antoine Roussel of the Dallas Stars is back in the crosshairs of the NHL’s disciplinary department after a brutal cross check delivered Tuesday night.
Antoine Roussel of the Dallas Stars did not succeed in removing the head of Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid Tuesday night in the first period of Dallas’ 5-3 win at TD Garden.
He did, however, succeed in gaining the attention of the NHL Player Safety people, who said Roussel will have a hearing Thursday to determine what punishment, if any, will be imposed.

Roussel has already been fined once this season, the maximum $5,376.45, for a sucker punch to the face of San Jose Sharks defenseman Justin Braun in November. That punch came after Roussel ran goalie Alex Stalock.

Roussel has quickly gained a reputation for being an agitator—hockeyspeak for “pain in the a**”—but that’s something he doesn’t really worry about.
After San Jose’s Logan Couture mentioned during a postgame interview that Roussel was “kind of known” for dirty play, a Dallas Morning News reporter asked him if he thinks he has a reputation.
“I don’t care,” Roussel said.
Alrighty then.
Roussel received a five-minute crosschecking major for the hit on McQuaid, as well as a game misconduct.
In 54 games this season, the 25-year-old French native has 11 goals and 22 points to go with 112 minutes in penalties. He has racked up 406 PIM since making his NHL debut with the Stars in February 2013.
After signing a free-agent deal with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League in October 2011, Roussel landed a contract with the Stars in July 2012.
