We are going to continue going over rookie prospects to get you ready for your rookie drafts. In this feature we will touch base on David Cobb, running back from Minnesota, and what you should expect out of his value when it comes to your rookie draft.
Film Review
Cobb is a big, physical back that can run in between the tackles very well. He is a load to bring down at 5’10 229 pounds. He has great ability to move laterally for his size and he displays a lot of burst for a guy his size when he’s running through the rushing lanes. He has a nasty stiff arm, and a very good spin move that he uses to pick up extra yards. Cobb’s build is very thick and compact and he is going to hold up very well at the NFL level. Cobb compares to Le’Veon Bell of the Steelers when he was coming out of college; being a bigger running back that is also quick and elusive.
College Production
David Cobb was very productive during his junior and senior years at Minnesota. During his junior year, he rushed for 1,202 yards and 7 TDs. He then improved upon these statistics his senior year by rushing for 1,626 yards and 13 TDs. I like his college productions because he’s not a one year wonder. The only negative I can say about his production is that he didn’t produce during his freshman and sophomore seasons, which demonstrates that he may not be a generational talent, but his production is still really good.
Player Value
Cobb is going to be drafted in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft, and he will be an incredible asset to a team that wants to establish the run. Cobb is going to go in the mid to late 1st round in rookie drafts this summer. I think his value will increase during the combine and increase even more when he gets drafted in the NFL. I like Cobb a lot and I wouldn’t hesitate drafting him in the middle of the first round if he lands in a good situation.
