The New York Jets are currently expected to release wide receiver Percy Harvin, who they acquired from the Seattle Seahawks midseason in 2014.

Percy Harvin used to be one of the most feared names in the NFL at the wide receiver position, but now it doesn’t appear likely that he will even keep his job with the lowly New York Jets. He had a poor season split between the Seattle Seahawks and Jets, and it looks like New York will end up releasing him ahead of the March 19th deadline.

At just 26 years of age, Harvin has already dealt with the number of injuries that a 17-year NFL veteran would have dealt with. He has had migraine issues as well, and it just doesn’t look good moving forward for him.

During the 13 total regular season games that he played in 2014, Harvin caught 51 passes for 483 yards and a touchdown. Rex Ryan and the Jets were hoping that he would be able to bring his speed to their offense and help out the passing game, but that didn’t come close to happening. There is no doubt that he still has talent, but whatever was holding him back this past season was too much for him to overcome.

New York still has quite a few holes in their roster, but new head coach Todd Bowles has a plan on how to revive the Jets’ organization.

It will be interesting to see if they actually end up releasing Harvin, or whether they choose to give him one more year to prove himself. His cap hit is $10.5 million, and obviously he hasn’t been playing like a wide receiver that deserves that type of money.

Assuming the Jets do cut him, it will be even more intriguing to see which teams end up trying to sign him. Despite all of the struggles that he has had, there is no denying the talent that he possesses. If he ever figures out how to turn his career back around, he has the ability to be a legitimate number one wide receiver.

All of that being said, it appears that his time with the Jets is over and they will likely be scouring the free agent market for another wide receiver. It was a good attempt by the Jets to bring in some star potential, but it simply didn’t work out.

Hopefully Harvin can figure out what he needs to do to get his career back on track, and can get back to making a difference when he’s on the field.
