The Arizona Cardinals have begun negotiations on a contract restructure for wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald to keep him around for the remainder of his career.
Larry Fitzgerald has been the face of the Arizona Cardinals’ franchise for quite a few years, but there were rumors that he could part ways with the team following this season. That doesn’t appear to be the case anymore, as the Cardinals have begun work to renegotiate his contract to keep him in town for the remainder of his career.

That would be a wise decision for both sides, rather than Fitzgerald heading elsewhere to finish his career.
It has been an impressive show that Fitzgerald has put on throughout his 11-year NFL career. He has caught 909 passes for 12,151 yards and 89 touchdowns. Those numbers show why he has been considered one of the best wide receivers to play the game in this era of the NFL, and he will not be forgotten anytime soon.
During the 2014 season, Fitzgerald was still able to make himself a weapon for the Cardinals. He ended up recording 784 yards and two touchdowns on 63 catches. There is no question that age is beginning to catch up to him, but he also has a couple other very good receivers surrounding him as well.
At 31 years of age, there aren’t more than a few good seasons of football left in him. Fitzgerald has put together an impressive career with the Cardinals, and it wouldn’t seem right for him to leave Arizona to finish it.
Hopefully the two sides will be able to figure something out. It isn’t necessarily going to be easy, but both sides would like to finish out what they started over the next couple of seasons. Arizona has flexibility to make this deal happen, and Fitzgerald has the desire to finish his career where it started.
All of that being said, it is going to be an interesting offseason to see what the Cardinals end up doing. They were one of the best teams in the NFC all season long until their starting and backup quarterbacks went down with knee injuries, and then fell apart. There is a lot to build on, and if they can fill a couple holes in the roster they will come back and be legitimate contenders once again next year.
Expect to see the Cardinals get something done with Fitzgerald fairly early this offseason. Both sides want to get something done and will work together to reach that goal.
